The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada has announced the three finalists for its Canadian Car and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards, as well as those for Best New Design, Technology and Green Technology.
Canadian Car of the Year
Finalists for Canadian Car of the Year were determined from the winners of the ‘Best New’ vehicle awards for nine different passenger-car categories, selected by AJAC’s journalists after back-to-back testing and announced at the organization’s annual ‘TestFest’, held in Niagara-on-the-lake, ON, last October. The finalists are:
- BMW 335d Sedan
- Volkswagen Golf GTI
- Volkswagen Golf Wagon TDI
Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year
Finalists for Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year are the winners of the three ‘Best New’ CUV/SUV vehicle awards, also selected and announced at last October. The finalists are:
- Lexus RX450h
- Subaru Outback
- Volkswagen Touareg TDI Clean Diesel
Best New Design
Finalists for the Best New Design award were selected by AJAC’s journalists from a short list established by four internationally renowned design experts, based not just on style but also on other factors such as function and brand essence. All CCOTY entries were eligible. The finalists are:
- Audi A5 Cabriolet
- BMW 335d Sedan
- Ford Taurus & Ford Taurus SHO
Best New Technology
Finalists for the Best New Technology award, presented by Shell Canada, were selected by a panel of AJAC journalists with specific technical qualifications. They are:
- Audi Drive Select
- Ford MyKey
- Volvo City Safety
Best New Green Technology
Finalists for the Best New Green Technology award, specifically targeted at new technologies that enhance the environmental friendliness of a vehicle and also presented by Shell, were selected by the same panel of AJAC experts as the Technology award. The finalists (which include one tie) are:
- Ford Next Generation Hybrid System and SmartGauge
- Mercedes- Benz S400 S400 Hybrid with Lithium-ion Batteries
- Toyota / Lexus Beltless Atkinson-cycle Engine with Cooled Exhaust
- Toyota / Lexus Plant-based Ecological Plastics
The winners in each of these categories will be announced on February 11th, 2010, at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, ON. Further information on AJAC and the Canadian Car of the Year program is available at www.ajac.ca.
